Nowadays, art-pieces are often illuminated by spotlights, which create an egg-shaped light pattern on both the art piece and its surroundings. The biggest problem with this lighting method is the lack of uniformity in light intensity. This means the art piece is illuminated suboptimal, and a lot of details are underexposed. To solve this problem, an innovative lighting system was created with the use of a 3D printed light guide which beams the light only on the art piece itself and additionally will illuminate it evenly. During my bachelor final project, I worked together with LuxExcel to develop this new lighting solution for art pieces. The result was a drop in replacement for current light fixtures. A prototype was build to test the design in real life.
